Have your say on apprenticeship review

Building services engineering industrial and commercial contractors are being urged to give their views on revised training standards for industrial and commercial apprentices.

Following a Government review of apprenticeships in 2013, the craftsperson and Installer apprenticeships are currently being reviewed to ensure they meet employer needs and provide learners with the right scope and levels of competence.

Revised standards, drawn up by a group of industry employers and supported by B&ES, are currently up for consultation allowing the wider industry to view the content and comment on their suitability.

Participants are being invited to comment on areas such as the duration of the apprenticeship, what an apprentice should be able to do on completion, and the specific knowledge and skills they need to gain during the training programme.

The consultation takes the form of a ten-minute online survey to complete after reviewing the two-page revised standards.

“It’s essential that employers take a look at the new standards to see what they involve,” said Colin Acheson, chairman of the Employer Development Group “If you employ building services engineering industrial and commercial apprentices, or are thinking about employing apprentices, these new standards will have an impact on your business. A few minutes now could make all the difference to your future workforce.”

The consultation closes on the 19th January. To view the revised standards and have your say, visit http://www.b-es.org/b-es-connections/employment-affairs/apprenticeships-consultation/.
